Ironically this seems to symbolise what they have done to the whole Sweeney franchise. The Sweeney is a 1970s British television police drama focusing on two members of the Flying Squad, a branch of the Metropolitan Police specialising in tackling armed robbery and violent crime in London.It stars John Thaw as Detective Inspector Jack Regan and Dennis Waterman as his partner, Detective Sergeant George Carter. Really? Watching it the jaw drops in how-did-they-do-that amazement.

There's no trace of Gene Hunt-style irony, he's just a complete bastard and unwittingly hilarious as a result. I've seen only one episode of the original series because I am such a huge John Thaw fan from his "Inspector Morse" series.

By the time he's asked to hand in his badge and gun, a citizen's arrest of the film-makers is surely justified. I won't spoil them and spill them out for you, buy it's a good watch. The acting of this British Cop movie is superb, starring the always excellent Hayley Atwell. We never even see an actual police station; this Flying Squad seems to operate out of a spacious, hi-tech corporate office building high above the city. Reviewed in the United States on July 12, 2013. If this wasn't called 'The Sweeney' you wouldn't know it was based on the TV series as it bears no relation to the classic series whatsoever. This on the other hand was a formulaic cop movie with a silly plot and a waste of the talent on show.
